What is Scratchboard?
Scratchboard is a black-and-white drawing medium. The board itself is a hardboard panel with a thin coating of fine, white clay covered by a layer of india ink. The drawing surface starts completely black.
How do you start?
Don't be intimidated! We start the process by tracing the outline - no drawing skills required! Once the image is transferred, you simply begin to scratch using a scratch pen and a step-by-step visual guide.
How do you add color to a scratchboard?
Once the image is "scratched" to completion, we use alcohol-based inks to add color and make the image really pop!
